Espoo Catering Oy conducted a school lunch survey for 5th grade pupils at lower comprehensive schools, 8th grade pupils at upper comprehensive schools and 2nd grade students at upper secondary schools in late 2017. We are pleased to note that our customers really enjoy their school lunches. The majority of the pupils and students have lunch at school every day. Those who skip lunch say it is because they have to be somewhere else at lunchtime or nothing on the menu appeals to them.

We were glad to learn that overall satisfaction with school meals has also clearly increased. The same goes for the friendliness of our kitchen staff, which the pupils find excellent.

The list of favourite foods is topped by traditional dishes like spinach pancakes, meatballs and semolina porridge with berry soup. New favourite dishes near the top of the list include kebab sauce and chicken and noodle bake. The most popular vegetarian dishes include carrot patties, falafel and vegetable balls as well as spinach soup. Favourite foods that customers would like to see on the menu are nuggets, hamburgers, pizza and salmon.

The link to the survey was sent to about 7,000 pupils through the Wilma system, and more than 2,000 responded. The number of responses was reduced by the fact that some 5th graders did not have access to Wilma.
